Kristians Kalva stands as a beacon among Latvia's most talented trumpet virtuosos, spanning the realms of jazz, pop, and classical music with unparalleled skill. A graduate of the esteemed Royal Conservatory in The Hague, under the tutelage of renowned European trumpeters Rik Mol, Martijn de Laat, and Frank van der Poel, Kalva has garnered acclaim as a laureate in numerous international competitions.
His journey has been marked by triumphs, including a two-year stint as part of Jong Metropole Orkest/academy, where he honed his craft alongside Metropole Orkest musicians. Collaborations with world-renowned conductors and soloists such as Donny McCaslin, Michelle David, and Jochen Neuffer have further enriched his musical tapestry.
Kalva's versatility shines through his engagements, from winning the prestigious UMO Big Band Freelancer position in Finland to gracing stages with Dutch pop/jazz sensation Trijntje Oosterhuis and the vibrant Caribbean collective "Cache Royale." His contributions extend beyond borders, with frequent appearances as a section musician in diverse European projects.
Back home, Kalva is a cherished collaborator with Latvia's leading orchestras, including the Latvian Radio Big Band, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and the chamber ensemble "Sinfonietta Rīga." His international footprint spans performances in the USA, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Spain, and beyond.
